The superintendent of Chester schools says that 13 jobs could be lost, and more could be cut, after a record-turnout of voters defeated a school budget plan on Tuesday night. The $22 million project would've come with a nearly 5 percent tax increase, and many people in the district say that with the economy the way it is, they simply couldn't support such an increase.

"I'm a senior citizen on a fixed income. I haven't gotten a raise in two years, and I couldn't vote for it," said voter Joan Hastings, who then apologized for being forced to vote the way she did.

Superintendent Sean Michelle says that the board is planning to meet tonight to discuss the particulars of a contingency budget that could result in the elimination of the 13 or more positions if it's adopted.
