A lunch monitor at Bailey Middle School in Kingston is being hailed as a hero for using the Heimlich maneuver last week on a choking student.
The Kingston Police Department posted about the incident on its Facebook page Tuesday, lauding the effort of Brandon Haslam-Brown, who was able to dislodge “the item” from the student’s throat within two thrusts.
A second monitor, Jen Merrill, was credited with calming the student down in the aftermath.
“Once hydrated and feeling a lot better, Jen escorted the student to the medical office where he was evaluated by the nursing staff. We are happy to report that the child is well and feeling great,” according to the Facebook post.
