Christopher Mello Memorial Scholarship awarded to Rye, Harrison football players

Saturday was supposed to be the 93rd meeting between Westchester County's arguably biggest football rivals, Rye and Harrison.
There was no game, but one tradition did continue: the awarding of the Christopher Mello Memorial Scholarship.
The Huskies' T.J. Ciafone and the Garnets' Jack Griffiths were named this year's winners, with each receiving a $5,000 scholarship.
Mello was a former Rye captain who passed away on 9/11. He was on Flight 11 out of Boston to California.
"It means everything. He represents so much. Everyone should look up to him. He's a great role model and it means a lot to be named with him," Griffiths said.
"To be the one to get it is pretty cool, and the message behind it, Chris Mello's legacy is going to live on through this award," Ciafone said.
Since 2002, the Foundation has given out more than $60,000 in scholarships to Rye and Harrison football players.
