A civil rights lawsuit against the village of Airmont that dragged on for years in court has been settled.
Under the settlement, the village will rewrite zoning law provisions to allow an Orthodox Jewish congregation to construct a school with student housing.
Airmont's zoning laws had prevented the group from obtaining a permit when it first applied for one back in 2002. In 2005, the U.S. attorney's office filed suit, saying the village's regulations violated the Fair Housing Act. Airmont's zoning codes once again headed to Federal Court
