Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace awarded Armando Gramajo and his daughter Shayla Gramajo with the Civilian Hero Award on Wednesday.
The award was granted to both good Samaritans for saving a woman from attempted murder in a 2024 attack.
In May 2024, Armando heard screaming and traced the sound to Harding Avenue in White Plains, where he saw 35-year-old Carlos Obed-Tovar repeatedly stabbing his wife, Carolina.
Armando confronted the attacker by screaming "stop" in Spanish.
His daughter, Shayla, who was a nursing student at the time, then rendered lifesaving aid to Carolina.
"To all the women who have faced any form of violence, please remember that you are not alone. our strength is infinite, and our voice is powerful," said Carolina on Wednesday.
District Attorney Susan Cacace called the father and daughter Bonafide heroes.
Obed-Tovar who pleaded guilty to attempted murder was sentenced to 12 years in prison
