An audit of the MTA released by the state comptroller?s office reveals that the transportation agency spent $600 million in 2009 to pay its employees for overtime.
The audit shows that some Metro-North employees made more than $100,000 in overtime last year. While the MTA paid for the extra earnings, it hiked fares for commuters and cut services to different locations.
Rockland County Executive Scott Vanderhoef says the county pays roughly $42 million in taxes to the MTA without getting the services it pays for. He says he?s considering joining Nassau County in a lawsuit against the MTA.
In a statement, the transportation agency said it recognizes the need for aggressive action to reduce overtime.
