There's a push gaining momentum for some relief on a very congested stretch of road in Yonkers.
Westchester County Legislator James Nolan is urging the county to consider approving a traffic study on Tuckahoe Road.
"Since Yonkers has become one of the biggest cities in the state, the congestion has built up especially with the success of Ridge Hill, FedEx, UPS," says Nolan.
The goal is to help pinpoint potential solutions to help with traffic flow. Nolan is also throwing in the idea of removing some of the crossing islands on this street. That would create a fifth lane dedicated to turning.
"They will usually stop traffic in the lane they have now but in a turn lane, they can turn in that lane and keep traffic flowing behind them," Nolan explains.
Another big part of adding that fifth lane is giving emergency crews a better chance at getting through quickly when needed.
"It's just a lot of traffic. It gets really, really hectic," says Avrenim Ramirez, who frequently drives on Tuckahoe Road for work.
Frequent drivers on this stretch of road tell News 12 relief from the congestion is urgently needed.
"It's insane here, it's crazy. You can't even get in and out of the parking lots," says Frankie who works on Tuckahoe Road.
Nolan says he will be working with other county leaders in the weeks ahead to discuss the potential next steps.
