Construction crew ruptures propane tank in New City
A ruptured propane tank caused road closures in New City today.
Clarkstown police say the tank was struck during construction in a lot near the entrance to Felix Festa Middle School on Parrot Road.
The eastbound lanes of Parrot Road were closed from Germonds Road to the entrance of the school. The surrounding schools were made aware of the traffic detours.
The New City Fire Department was conducting a controlled burn to rid the underground tank of any propane left behind.
A hazmat team was also on the scene as a precaution.
