Police say Palisades Mall security caught four suspects in the act of stealing valuable items out of cars in the parking lot. According to police, 37-year-old Hector Ortiz, 22-year-old VanEssa Dacosta, Danny Acevedo and Elaine Ortiz, both 30 years old, allegedly broke into four parked cars Wednesday evening at the mall in West Nyack. Police say they made off with $3,000 worth of stolen property, including a GPS unit, two laptop computers and a Coach bag.
The crew was allegedly spotted in the act by mall security, who immediately called Clarkstown police. Officers stopped the suspects traveling in a 1992 Honda, which police say was stolen in Middletown last week.
The four suspects, who are from Orange County, were given bail that was determined by their prior criminal records. They are currently being held at the Rockland County Jail.
