A Cornwall mom who wrote a children’s book about her 5-year-old daughter’s hearing loss to help kids is now a best-selling author on Amazon.
Niki Halwani’s daughter, Peyton, was born with a rare genetic disease that caused the little girl to lose hearing in her left ear.
The child got a hearing aid last year ,and her mom says it made her feel self-conscious in school when curious classmates asked questions.
“She went to kindergarten this year and kids kept going, ‘What’s that in your ear?,’” said Halwani.
Halwani decided to write “Peyton’s Magical Hearing Aid” to help explain hearing aids to kids.
“The book is for kids to really want to wear their hearing aid and then it’s for teachers to read to students, especially if they have a child in their class with a hearing aid,” said Halwani.
Halwani and her daughter read the book to camp kids in New Windsor this month.
She says she has gotten positive feedback from parents, teachers and children about the book’s impact on their lives.
