Grief counselors were on hand to help students and school staff deal with the sudden death of a kindergartner in Port Jervis.
According to officials, 5-year-old Deleshiana Wright collapsed in front of fellow school mates during field day activities at the Anna S. Kuhl Elementary School. Wright was treated by the school?s staff with a defibrillator, but she died at the hospital.
Wright was a foster child who educators say had been making tremendous progress in school. The superintendent of the school district released a statement expressing condolences to the family and to the friends of the little girl. Wright?s foster mother was at the school at the time of the incident and could only watch in horror.
State police say they have preliminary autopsy results, but they are inconclusive. More tests will be done to find the cause of Wright?s death.
