The New York Court of Appeals has dismissed a motion by a group opposed to the state's mask mandate to overturn the lower court's ruling that had kept Gov. Kathy Hochul's mask mandate in place.

A few weeks ago, a New York Supreme Court judge ruled Hochul's mask mandate was outside her authority and struck it down. She appealed, and the appellate court put a stay on that ruling.

The group that brought the original lawsuit to strike down the mandate then appealed to the Court of Appeals to strike down the appellate ruling. They dismissed that appeal.

These rulings are all temporary for now. Hochul has until March 2 to argue for a final ruling on her authority to put a mask mandate in place.

Hochul's general mask or vaccine mandate for most public spaces ended today. A mask mandate for schools remains.
