COVID-19 numbers continue to rise across New York and the Mid-Hudson region.

Over the weekend, state officials reported record setting days for new Covid cases in New York and expressed concern as Christmas approaches with people gathering and traveling.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in New York is now more than 22,000. Sunday saw an increase of 570 cases from the day before, making it the third consecutive record setting day for new cases in the state.

Here are some of the numbers of new cases locally:

• Rockland County - 271

• Orange County - 368

• Westchester County - 983 and three of those cases are the omicron variant.

There have been 542 new hospitalizations and 58 new deaths in the state. One of those deaths was in Orange County.

Health officials say it's important to remember we now know a lot more about this virus than we did last year at this time, and that includes how to protect ourselves.

People who spoke with News 12 say they're doing everything they can to stay safe. "I'm just masking up as usual whenever I go inside. And staying in the job behind the counter, we're all masked up," says Edwardo Archinti, of White Plains. "If you're planning a small gathering with family, if they are able to get tested before seeing each other that's definitely better. With my close family that's what we're planning on doing," says Carlos Orbegoso, of White Plains.
