Mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa is speaking out against speculation about a White House role.
The rumors stem from a
New York Times report indicating that advisers to President Donald Trump discussed offering administration roles to both incumbent Mayor Eric Adams and Sliwa.
Adams responded in a statement, "“Serving New Yorkers as their mayor is the only job I’ve ever wanted. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made lowering crime, improving schools, building housing, and cutting costs for working families — and I remain the best person to lead this city forward. While I will always listen if called to serve our country, no formal offers have been made. I am still running for reelection, and my full focus is on the safety and quality of life of every New Yorker.”
According to published reports, Adams was offered a position in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Sliwa responded:
"The White House has not contacted me, and I'm not interested in a job with the White House. My focus is right here in New York. I'm the only candidate on a major party line who can defeat Mamdani, and I'm committed to carrying this fight through to Election Day. The people of New York City deserve a mayor who truly cares."
