Diwali, the five-day holiday is also known as the Festival of Lights got underway in Port Chester on Sunday.
Each day of the festival has a specific meaning. People observe it by cleaning their homes, lighting candles, and drawing traditional designs called rangoli art.
Food is also important for the celebration.
A restaurant manager, Bharat Patel, hosted a special buffet to share his culture with others in the community.
"This is more like for my customers. They come [to support my restaurant] during the day [and] during the year. So, one day I want to show them [that] this is our festival also," Patel said.
