The civilian who found Rene Perez and the doctor who treated him described the homeless immigrant's final moments Wednesday during the manslaughter trial of former Mount Kisco Police Officer George Bubaris.
Charles Adams, a Manhattan caterer, described spotting Perez on Byram Lake Road in April 2007 as he drove home from working a party. Adams says by the time he called 911, Perez had gone from lying against the guardrail to slumping over flat on the ground.
Also giving testimony was Dr. Edward Jarvis, a former officer and the emergency room doctor who attended to Perez. Jarvis says the illegal immigrant was in an altered mental state, smelled of alcohol and was combative when brought in. According to the doctor, Perez showed no signs of being beaten but was very pale, a possible sign of internal blood loss.
Bubaris is accused of hunting down Perez and beating him before leaving him to die. The former officer quit the force earlier this year rather than face disciplinary actions for his alleged role in Perez's death.
Testimony is expected to resume Thursday.
