Doctors are warning the public about monkeypox following declared health emergencies in New York and across the nation.

Some doctors report seeing cases in children and women. They say there's some evidence it's more severe for kids and leading to negative outcomes for pregnant women.

Doctors maintain only gay men, the most at-risk population, should be pursuing the limited vaccine supply currently.

"If you're at risk – get vaccinated and check yourself regularly for any evidence of infection,” said Dr. Jason Zucker, infectious diseases specialist at NewYork-Presbyterian and Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

That evidence is a flu-like illness and swelling of the lymph nodes then a rash.
