A dog was shot by a state trooper during a visit to a home in Mamakating on Wednesday.
State police said the dog ran outside and charged at the trooper while interviews were being conducted.
The trooper was backed into a corner behind a vehicle before firing seven shots, according to police.
The dog, named Pumpkin, was taken to a nearby veterinarian and is recovering.
Pumpkin's owner said she was hit twice and called the trooper's actions reckless.
Troop F has not yet responded to requests for more information.
