The southbound lanes of Route 1&9 remain temporarily closed in Woodbridge due to a tractor-trailer crash on Tuesday afternoon.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation says the truck knocked down a traffic signal and three utility poles near Randolph and East Milton avenues around 12:15 p.m.
The northbound lanes have since reopened.
A car also burst into flames nearby. A video given to News 12 shows three good Samaritans rushing to rescue an unconscious woman from that car. It was not clear why the car caught on fire.
Route 1&9 southbound detour:
  • Motorists on Route 1&9 southbound are being directed to turn right onto Stiles Street and take the ramp to Route 35 northbound/Rahway
  • Turn left onto Route 27 southbound •Continue on Route 27 southbound for several miles
  • At the Colonia Avenue traffic signal, stay straight and go under the railroad bridge to take Route 35 southbound
  • Continue on Route 35 southbound, back to Route 1&9
