New Rochelle firefighters rushed to a home on Lyncroft Road to distinguish a
two-alarm fire.
A
family of five is now searching for a new place to stay after the
fast-moving fire began before 12 p.m. Wednesday.
Dozens of firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
Fire officials tell News 12 all occupants managed to exit safely before crews
arrived.
Authorities say the hot, humid day and style of the home’s roof made putting
out the flames even harder.
"Especially that Spanish
tile. On a hot day like today, it was labor-intensive. People are up
there balancing themselves trying not to fall off the roof,” says New Rochelle Fire Chief Andrew Sandor. “These guys train a lot, they're top-notch. This
is why.”
The fire started in the second-floor roof
sheeting, authorities say.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
