Dr. Anthony Fauci is warning we could see a "super surge" in cases after the busy holiday travel season.

"We're going to have an increase superimposed upon that surge, which could make January even worse than December. I hope not. I hope that doesn't happen, but it certainly is possible," says Dr. Fauci.        

He says the general population likely won't have access to the vaccine until April or May. But by then, Dr. Fauci hopes widespread availability of the shots will help beat back the pandemic. "We hope as we get into January, February, March and into April we'll finally be there so that the spring and the summer we can really do a very good job getting as many people as possible vaccinated."

As variants of the virus are discovered, more testing continues to make sure the vaccines are still effective.
