Orange County agencies teamed up to nab 63 suspects accused of dealing drugs near schools Wednesday.
Dubbed ?Operation Protect Our Children,? the arrests targeted drug dealers who sell within 1,000 feet from a school or day care center. From August to December last year, police say they made hundreds of undercover drug buys. They worked with the Orange County District Attorney's Office to secure indictments and then made the arrests.Police say the majority of the illegal transactions were done in front of kids. City of Newburgh Police Chief Eric Paolilli says if children continue to witness drug deals, they will start to accept it as a normal course of business on the streets.
Those involved in the drug sweep call the operation a success and say more arrests are imminent.
