An e‑bike enforcement detail was conducted Saturday in Clark following a rise in complaints about reckless and unsafe riding by juveniles.

The operation took place last Saturday at Clark Commons and other locations. Officers from the Juvenile Bureau and Patrol Division, along with detectives, made up what police described as the second proactive e‑bike detail this spring.

Authorities said warming weather has brought more riders—and more complaints—particularly involving reckless riding, use of prohibited areas, and failure to follow traffic laws. Officers used the detail to educate riders about state laws that take effect in July, emphasizing safe and legal operation of e‑bikes.

“The Clark Police Department will not take a reactive approach when it comes to public safety,” Director Patrick Grady said in a statement. “We are committed to addressing dangerous behavior before it results in serious injury or loss of life.” Police said the enforcement resulted in:

  • 16 curbside warnings

  • 8 juveniles taken into short‑term custody

  • 16 summonses issued

  • 4 e‑bikes impounded

  • 1 adult e‑bike rider arrested following a foot pursuit

Officials reminded riders that e‑bikes are subject to New Jersey traffic laws and said operators should remain mindful of pedestrians, drivers and other cyclists. Police encouraged residents to report ongoing concerns so they can be addressed promptly.
