Elected officials rededicate World War I memorial plaques in White Plains
The memorial at the Westchester County Center was partially dismantled when New York state used the lot to erect temporary medical facilities during the height of the COVID-19 crisis.

A special rededication of World War I memorial plaques was held in White Plains Friday.
Community members, Mayor Tom Roach, Westchester County Executive George Latimer and Veterans Service Agency Director Ronald C. Tocci honored the sacrifice and service of World War I military members.
The memorial, which is in the west lot at the Westchester County Center, was partially dismantled when New York state used the lot to erect temporary medical facilities during the height of the COVID-19 crisis.
All of the original 49 plaques and trees have now been restored.
"I think it's a duty of all the succeeding generations to understand and appreciate, not only remember, but to pray for the souls of those people who are no longer with us today and at the same time to pass that torch onto the younger generation and make them understand what America is truly all about," Tocci said.
Visitors can see the plaques along Central Avenue.
