Former Rockland County Legislator Brian Miele is being accused of stealing more than $40,000 while working for the Ramapo School District.
The Rockland County district attorney says while Miele was head of the district's human resources department, he gave his daughter, who is a teacher in the district, education credit that she never earned. In turn, Miele's daughter was entitled to a higher pay rate and was allegedly overpaid by more than $40,000.
Harriett Cornell, chairwoman of the Rockland County Legislature, says she only knows Miele to be a fine, upstanding gentleman and was shocked to hear of the allegations.
Miele faces grand larceny charges. He is due back in Ramapo court next month.
