Former Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas says he is not giving up in his efforts to get the Democratic nomination for mayor.

Thomas will not appeal a ruling by the County Board of Elections that invalidated his nominating petitions.

Instead, he will wage a write-in campaign.

Incumbent Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard is also being challenged in the June primary by former Mayor Andre Wallace.

Thomas was elected mayor in 2015 but resigned in 2019 after pleading guilty to misusing campaign funds.

Wallace served the last six months of his term.
