Jessica Thorpe will never forget the last time she saw her brother alive in a hospital bed. 

“His skull was fractured. He was pronounced brain dead at 12:55 on Aug. 13.” 

Edgar Stone, 38, was found unconscious Aug. 10 - lying in a driveway at a home on Willella Place in the town of Newburgh, according to police. 

Authorities say witnesses at first claimed Stone hurt himself after falling or purposely jumping from a ladder off a roof, but that their investigation quickly showed that wasn’t the case. 

“When they told me that the girlfriend said, or whoever she was to him, that he jumped off a roof – I knew that was a lie,” said Thorpe. “My brother is afraid of heights. He would never climb a ladder.” 

Town of Newburgh police charged four people - David Quaglietta, Samantha Mitzner, Danaya Matychak and Marcia Strang - with manslaughter in his death after an alleged brutal assault. 

Prosecutors say Stone died from blunt force trauma to the head. A motive is so far not clear. 

His sister says her family, who’s from New Jersey, lost a brother, son and uncle. 

“They took him away from a lot of people. I hope they pay for what they did. My brother did not deserve this at all.” 

A GoFundMe page for Edgar Stone has been set up to help the family pay for funeral expenses.
