The family of late rapper DMX has declined to comment on a new
report that claims the Yonkers native died from a cocaine-induced heart attack.
DMX, whose legal name was Earl Simmons, passed away back in April
at the age of 50.
The Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office is also not
confirming a report by Vulture that says the hip-hop icon was brain dead after
suffering a heart attack.
The Vulture
report cited an unnamed source in the Westchester County Medical Examiner's
Office.
News 12 caught up with some of those who knew DMX, who had worked
with the Nepperhan Community Center to deliver meals and inspire Yonkers youth.
"He really had a soft spot for children and particularly
those who didn't have a voice and those who were discarded," says Jim
Bostic, director of the Nepperhan Community Center.
The center has secured funding to renovate
the basement and create radio and television studios. Officials say they plan
to name those studios in honor of DMX
