The annual plant sale at Farmingdale State College has become a must-visit event for gardeners looking for unusual plants, herbs, annuals, and perennials at a great price. All the proceeds for the sale go back to supporting the Horticulture students and the Robert F. Ench Teaching Gardens.

The event features a wide selection of flowers, vegetables, herbs, tropical plants, succulents, perennials, and houseplants. Much of the inventory is grown right on campus by students and staff, giving buyers access to well-maintained plants that aren’t always available at traditional retail nurseries. Local growers also generously donate plants to help support the program also.

On the first day, which was Tuesday May 5 this year, people waited in line up to 3 hours before the sale opened because they want the first pick of plants. While some of the rarest plants may be taken quickly, there are still hidden gems and plenty of annuals, herbs, veggies, and perennials to choose from for visitors throughout the sale.

After the initial rush the first morning on Tuesday, there typically are fewer lines and there is enough inventory to last all three days. On the last day, prices may be deeply discounted on the plants that remain.

Make sure to bring your own wagon since these will not be provided. Cash or credit is accepted.

The sale runs until Thursday May 7 from 9 AM to 5 PM in parking lot 2 near University Police
