The FDA is proposing the creation of one-page medication sheets that simplify drug information for patients.
The FDA says 75% of Americans have trouble taking their medications as directed. Using medication incorrectly contributes to nearly 25% of hospital admissions and approximately 125,000 deaths each year.
Small label prints and overly lengthy medication inserts are believed to contribute to the issue.
The agency is now proposing making short medication sheets that summarize basic information including the medication’s name, purpose, safety information, common side effects and directions on how to take it.
The proposal has yet to be finalized and FDA officials are seeking
feedback from the public.
