A fiery crash involving a tractor-trailer and minivan injured drivers and shut down part of the Thruway in Sloatsburg Memorial Day.
According to the Sloatsburg fire chief, the minivan slammed into the tractor-trailer after the truck jackknifed around 1:45 p.m. Fire officials say the minivan hit the tractor-trailer's fuel tank. When responders arrived at the scene, they found both vehicles engulfed in flames.
Both drivers suffered minor injuries.
Firefighters from Eagle Valley, Suffern, Hillburn and Tuxedo took about 40 minutes to extinguish the flames. They had to bring in water tankers because no water source was readily available. The accident closed all northbound lanes while firefighters battled the fire.
"It's terrible trying to get upstate and it's gonna be a very long time until we get there, can't meet the family and we're screwed," driver Shantia Williams said of being stuck in traffic.
