A fire at Campbell Hall Rehabilitation Center in Orange County has left about a dozen residents displaced, according to county fire officials.
Officials with the facility tell News 12 it’s a busy day of cleaning up and working to get the residents back home as soon as possible.
According to firefighters on scene, a report of smoke came in around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. They said they arrived to thick black smoke on the first floor, coming from a recreation room.
While the exact cause is still under investigation, officials with Campbell Hall Rehabilitation Center say the fire started in the room’s PTAC heating unit.
Fire officials said they rescued three trapped residents in neighboring rooms and evacuated the building.
They also said one resident was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and no other injuries were reported.
Firefighters and ambulances from across the county responded.
News 12 is told the fire was knocked out quickly.
Orange County’s coordinator of Emergency Services says the displaced residents were relocated to the county-owned Valley View Center in Goshen.
Campbell Hall Rehabilitation Center tells News 12 it is working to clean up and bring the residents back home by Sunday evening.
