A school and dorm on the first floor of 82 Highview Road in Ramapo are allowed to reopen, but a day care and anything else on the top floor will remain closed, according to a new court filing from the town.

News 12 learned in state Supreme court Tuesday morning that the town's Building Department recently found most of the fire and safety codes violations at the property had been resolved.

Judge Greenwald has everyone back in court this month, including a town building inspector to testify about what's been done at the building.

"They're continuing to be cooperative," said first assistant town attorney Alyssa Slater. "We're in constant contact with their attorney. I know he's working diligently to correct the violations and they can get up and running again in a safe manner."

She explained carbon monoxide and smoke detectors are now installed and the sprinkler system works.

However, the day care will remain closed because it still does not have the necessary approvals.

Any fines will be handled in Ramapo Justice Court, a matter that is expected to be there next week.

Last week, News 12 reported on what inspectors saw in March, like boarded up windows, the use of many extension cords, unsanitary conditions and more.

No one at 82 Highview Road wanted to provide comment for News 12's story.
