An unexpected home invasion by a mischievous squirrel caused chaos in a Gloucester Township home earlier this week.
Police were dispatched to a residence in the Terrestria Development around 4:45 p.m. Monday after residents reported the wayward squirrel.
Officers found the pint-sized intruder — later named "Squirrellene Dion" by police — in the kitchen. When Patrolman Ryan Fink and Patrolman Zack Blome approached, the squirrel went nuts, fleeing into the living room.
After some "animal whispering de-escalation techniques," Fink took custody of the unharmed squirrel and released it back into the wild, police said.
Police say this is not Fink's first encounter with animal antics; he's previously handled birds and raccoons.
