A McDonald’s in Flatbush is now requiring customers under the age of 20 to be accompanied by a parent, a policy that has left some in the community surprised and frustrated.
A sign posted on the door of the Nostrand Avenue location states the new rule, but McDonald’s has not yet provided an explanation for the change. The fast-food spot is a go-to for students from nearby schools, but some say the area has also had its challenges.
According to the NYPD, police have been called to the location 29 times this year. Some residents believe security measures should be strengthened, rather than limiting access for young people.
“The best way to deter crime is show enforcement, not come in with your Mommy,” said Crown Heights resident Leon Joseph.
News 12 reached out to McDonald’s for clarification on the policy but has yet to receive a response.
