Officials have announced a flood-mitigation project to reduce future flooding after parts of Central Nyack have been hard-hit by flooding after Hurricane Irene and the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee.
Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack announced the project for areas such as Gillis Avenue and West Broadway. He says the plan is to build a retention dam to hold back water during periods of heavy rain.
The project has an estimated cost of $5 million and will be financed through a bond program over the next 25 years.
Gromack says that all of the permits are in place to begin work within weeks.
