Some students will have to wait a week for their first day of school.
The start of the new school year for some in Yonkers will now begin Sept. 9 due to flooding damage as a result of the remnants of Ida.
Yonkers School Superintendent Dr. Edwin Quezada tells News 12 that crews are in the process of cleaning up the mess left behind by the storm.
Teachers and staff who were supposed to receive training Thursday will have to go in Friday instead.
Quezada says that cleanup is not the only issue he is facing - there is a shortage of bus drivers.
School officials say hundreds of students will not be able to ride a bus to school until further notice.
Quezada says he has almost 300 students without a bus driver and expects the number to grow.
“We also are registering students on a daily basis,” says Quezada. “So that 300 number will increase and that’s very concerning.”
