Former Yonkers mayor to take on Clinton in November race for U.S. Senate

Former Yonkers Mayor John Spencer defeated Reagan-era Pentagon official Kathleen Troia "KT" McFarland, 60 to 40-percent, to win the Republican nomination tochallenge Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) in November.
Spencer won after an intense primary race with McFarland who commented on public remarks Spencer had made in 1998 concerning Governor Pataki (R-NY). In the Democratic primary, Clinton defeated labor organizer Jonathan Tasini. He had mounted a challenge to Clinton over her 2002 vote authorizing the Iraq war.
Spencer faces an uphill battle against Clinton, a likely 2008 presidential contender.
