Officials say a four-alarm fire killed 17,000 chickens on a farm in Woodbury early Wednesday.
According to authorities, the fast-moving flames tore through Ace Farm on County Route 40. The 7-week-old chicks were being raised to replace egg-laying hens. Firefighters from 20 different companies responded to the blaze, which spread through a large barn. The fire also destroyed the farm?s store where produce and eggs were sold.
No firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation. However, the family that owns the farm says an electrical short in a storage area might have sparked the blaze.
