Loved ones and the community said their goodbyes Tuesday to the former longtime editor of the Cornwall Local newspaper.

Ken Cashman, 83, died on Aug. 13 after suffering a stroke.

He worked as the paper’s editor for 21 years until he retired in 2022, according to the publication.

"Ken was a true gentleman, and a master of his craft. We, and the whole Cornwall community, will miss him," says Mary Jane Pitt, editor of the Cornwall Local.

Cashman still proofread for the Cornwall Local and reported on local sports until his death. He was named Orange County’s Citizen of the Month in July.

“He was a terrific, genuine guy, and one of the best journalists I have worked with,” says Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus. “Although he was from the

Cornwall area, he touched all of Orange County. I am honored to have known him.”

Cashman served as an officer for American Legion Post 353 in Cornwall and was an elder at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monroe.

It’s not immediately known what military branch of service Cashman served in.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Cashman will be buried at the Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.
