A summer basketball youth league with a special mission is kicking off its first full week.
The Future Talent Basketball League gives over 1,200 kids a chance to play and learn from some of the area's best players.
The league is free, but in order to join every player has to write a 300 to 500 word essay. This year's topic was health. Last year, players had to write about bullying.
Local basketball legend Shane Woney founded the league five years ago as a way to create a safe and positive environment for young people.
