The highest gas prices ever recorded in Connecticut were in June 2022, when a gallon of regular was $4.98. Gas prices are up 3 cents in Connecticut. You can expect to pay an average of $4.55. Monday, you were paying $4.52. Drivers fueling up in Fairfield County will be paying over $4.61.

If you go back just a week ago, we were paying 30 cents less for gas. A month ago, it was 50 cents less, and a year ago it was $1.50 less. The high gas prices are crushing many restaurant sales, as well as shipping and trucking. Connecticut now ranks 12th in the nation for highest gas prices.

A key factor is the slowdown in oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. Before the conflict, as many as 140 tankers passed through the route each day. Over the weekend, just seven made the trip. He says he believes more oil will be coming through the Strait of Hormuz as the U.S. says it would help in freeing ships.
