Geri Shapiro, longtime Senate staffer and activist in Westchester, dies at 83

New Rochelle native and longtime U.S. Senate staffer Geri Shapiro has died from cancer. She was 83 years old.
Shapiro was known for being a community volunteer and activist in Westchester. She was also one of the oldest members of staff in Congress.
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand recently paid tribute to Shapiro on the Senate floor for her decades of service.
Hilary Clinton established the Geri Shapiro Empowerment Fund in her honor. The Shapiro family is requesting people donate to that fund in her memory.
Funeral services are happening Monday at Central Synagogue in New York City at 10:30 a.m.
