A Hudson Valley police department is being credited for going above and beyond to help a woman who suffered a medical emergency during this week's heat wave.

Carol Lee, 76, could barely breathe inside her Goshen home during the extreme temperatures Tuesday and called police to help.

Responding officers found the woman suffering inside her Wedgewood Drive house without air conditioning during temperatures nearing 100 degrees.

They helped EMTs get the woman to the hospital where she remains, but what they did next goes above and beyond the call of duty.

"One of the officers just said how horribly hot the room was. Within 10 minutes after, he said that a group message went out to the other members of the police department, and one said he has an air conditioner," says Sgt. Al Faust. 

Faust says Sgt. Dave Ramsey donated an air conditioner that Faust and Officer Stanley Lupinski installed.

This isn't the first time Goshen police have stepped in to help Carol Lee. They've also helped her with groceries and prescriptions.

"She's like a second mother or grandmother to all of us at the police station, and we try to do the same for everybody," says Faust. 

Lee says her thanks will never be enough.

"More than thank you. God bless them all and keep them safe," said Lee.

The Town of Goshen PBA posted about the officers in a Facebook post, commending them for a job well done.
