Omicron cases are steadily rising across the state, with the confirmed case number now increasing to 20.
Gov. Kathy Hochul also says that the spread of the variant is not coming from people who have traveled to New York.
Omicron is now being reported in half of the U.S. and nearly 60 countries.
The commissioner of the New York state Department of Health says the agency is working to learn more amid many unanswered questions.
Hochul also announced 16 new Vax to School sites - including six sites open to children ages 5 and older.
One of those sites is open in Yonkers at the public library on Central Park Avenue.
The governor plans on announcing new measures on how to help fight the surge on Friday.
While the governor didn't say what Friday's announcement will entail, she has hinted at a number of things in the past, including a vaccine mandate in schools being a "possibility."
