Gov. Kathy Hochul officially clinched her party's nomination to run for a full four-year term in November at the New York State Democratic Convention on Thursday.

Gov. Kathy Hochul officially clinched her party's nomination to run for a full four-year term in November at the New York State Democratic Convention on Thursday.
It comes six months after becoming governor and follows the resignation of Andrew Cuomo.
Hochul told those assembled that the party made history.
"And I thank you all, the heart and soul of the Democratic party, for giving me the opportunity to serve as the very first female nominee for governor," she says.
New York State Democratic Chair Jay Jacobs told News 12 about [Hochul’s] influence in state politics.
"I don't remember a convention where everyone has come together with such unity, and it's because of Hochul," he says
Despite Hochul's growing popularity, she could still face a three-way primary this June with New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and Long Island Rep. Tom Suozzi expected to start the petitioning process next month. The Democrats also threw their support behind Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.
The loudest applause went to someone not even on the ballot this year - Hillary Rodham Clinton. Gov. Hochul was introduced by the Chappaqua resident and former secretary of state.
Clinton even sparked speculation of a possible return to the national stage.
In two weeks, the focus will turn to the Republicans who are holding their state convention on Long Island.
They will be meeting in Nassau County where there was a sweep of Republican wins last November.
