A nine-count indictment was handed up Friday in the kidnapping of a 13-year-old Hillcrest girl.
The three suspects, Donald Siler, 19, his 14-year-old brother, Jamahl, and their cousin, Chantia Marshall, 17 were charged with kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, reckless endangerment, assault, possession of stolen property and endangering the welfare of a child. Donald Siler and Marshall also were charged with grand larceny. A fourth teenager, Mitzi Mijangos, 17, of Spring Valley, was charged with second-degree attempted burglary in an incident at the victim?s home not connected with the kidnapping.
Police say Mara Downes was abducted from her front lawn Monday afternoon in what they say was a kidnap-for-ransom scheme. Police issued an Amber Alert and found her three hours later in Spring Valley locked in the trunk of a stolen Toyota Camry. Investigators believe the teens, who live a block from the Downes, had targeted the family because they thought they had money.
