A highly anticipated groundbreaking began Thursday at the site of the old White Plains Mall.

It's the future site of what's being called Hamilton Green, as the south side of the property runs along Hamilton Avenue.

The new mixed-use property will include four buildings for multifamily housing and underground parking, in addition to a variety of dining, retail and commercial spaces.

The entire property is a little under 4 acres in size and is expected to be completed in two phases over two years.

There will be over 800 residential units including 78 on-site affordable units.
