Hastings-on-Hudson has declared a state of emergency beginning at noon Sunday as Westchester County prepares for another winter storm bringing snow and ice.
Department of Public Works crews across the county are gearing up for the system, which officials warn is creating new challenges due to layers of accumulated snow and ice.
Mayor Thomas Drake said Hastings-on-Hudson crews are fully mobilized. Trucks have been loaded with salt, and the village ordered additional supplies after the last storm to ensure readiness.
Drake said repeated storms have left thick layers of ice and snow along curbs, complicating plowing operations and increasing the risk of equipment damage. Crews must work more cautiously to avoid breaking plows and trucks while clearing streets.
Officials throughout Westchester say preparation is ongoing and urge residents to stay alert as the storm approaches.
