Environmental crews worked through the night Friday to contain a massive oil spill in Ossining and prevent it from going into the Croton River.
Investigators say a tanker truck flipped over on Quaker Ridge Road while trying to make a turn. A sharp rock then punctured the tank, sending approximately 1,000 gallons of home heating oil gushing into surrounding areas. Crews say the cleanup work is far from over, but there is no risk of the oil getting into neighboring homes or water.
Crews will stay on the scene for the next four to five days and after that, weekly check ups will be conducted.
